Effingham County Sportsman's Club

Highpower Rifle

A variety of rifle matches are held at the main rifle range.
Rifle matches are shot the 1st Sunday of April,

May, June, July, September and October.  Shot at 200 yards,

with targets to simulate shooting an official “across the course”

match at 200-300-600 yards, from the standing, sitting and

prone positions.  Service and match rifles are allowed.

80 shots for record and sighter shots are fired at each match.

Fees are $5 for members, $7 for non-members and

juniors shoot free.

Shooting starts at 8:30am.

Vintage Military Rifle (VMR) matches are shot the 1st Sunday of March and November.  These matches are strictly for fun, and are modeled after CMP Garand matches.  Shooting is done from 200 yards, from the standing, sitting and prone positions, for a total of 50 shots for record and 10 sighters.  It is a great way to start and end the season by shooting your vintage wood and steel rifles, such as the M1903A3 and M1 Garand.  Fees are $5 for members, $7 for non-members, juniors shoot free and shooting starts at 8:30am.

Mini-Palma .22lr prone match is held on the 1st Sunday of August.  It is fired at 100 yards, but is set up to simulate firing .308 rifles at 800-900-1000 yards (a Palma match).  Firing is done using a sling from the prone position, and there are classes for iron and optic sights.  It’s a fun and challenging change of pace in the middle of the season.  Fees are $5 for members, $7 for non-members and juniors shoot free.  Shooting starts at 8:30am.

Remember, the club has loaner M1 Garand rifles, so if you would like to try a match but don’t have a rifle, you can still shoot!
